It was noticeable during my visit to Singapore last year that whereas Mandarin was the Chinese lingua franca, the food terms were in the appropriate language e.g. dishes such as Char Kway Teow.
Now that's interesting, because pulchritude told me that in China people use their own language/topolect for dim sum dishes, rather than the Cantonese. I wonder if this is because Singapore is more multilingual.
